About Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva
Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva is a Reserva red wine made with the Garnacha Tinta, Graciano and Tempranillo varieties by the Castillo de Sajazarra winery in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.
Castillo de Sajazarra was set up in 1973 by Alfonso Lebanon, who rebuilt an old castle acquired by his family in the 60s and found centuries-old winemaking parts. Located in Sajazarra, one of the highest areas of Rioja Alvavesa, it is an authentic “chateau” in the middle of La Rioja, which has a total of 49 hectares of vineyards around it. In 2006, they expanded the company by acquiring 25 hectares in Bell-Lloc (Barcelona) with the intention of producing wines from the D.O. Alella.
Located at an altitude of between 540 and 680 metres, the Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva vineyards enjoy the most significant Atlantic influence in La Rioja. With very poor, clay-calcareous soils, each plot is harvested separately when the low-yield grapes are very ripe.
The grapes from each plot are fermented separately in stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 26ºC. Between 10 and 20% of the total wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels with periodic battonage. Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva ages for 24 months in new and semi-new French and American oak barrels. Then it is refined for a minimum of 12 months.
Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva is a Reserva red wine that keeps all the typicality of the territory but holds the wood in the background.

2014 | Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva 2014 is a mature red wine with complex aromas of flowers, ripe black fruit and spicy and balsamic notes. On the palate it is balanced, unctuous and lingering. | |
2004 | Meaty and powerful wine. Very tasty mid palate with hints of toast. Noble and powerful tannins. Long and very persistent wine. Cherry colour with violet trims. Intense and bright. Good tears. Intense and complex aromas. The aromas of wood stay in the background, very well integrated with the notes of ripe fruit. Spicy and creamy notes provided by the oak. |
|
2003 | Unctuous in the mouth, with solid structure, ripe tannins and slightly drying. Harmonious and long. Very attractive color cover, with red pillorying purplish reflexes. Very intense and full flavor, with aromas of integrated wood snuff, balsamic, spicy which reflects its passage through wood. |
