About Cascina Morassino Langhe Nebbiolo
As the saying goes “the older the violin, the sweeter the music”, the old vines of Cascina Morassino make excellent wine. This winery has a wealth of first-class vineyards, located in the prestigious wine-growing town of Barbaresco, in Piedmont (Italy) and spreading across a total of just 4.5 hectares. Mauro Bianco inherited these vineyards from his family and has been turning them into wine since 1984 with the utmost respect and minimal intervention. Now his son Roberto Bianco is following the same path as his father and with a limited annual production of 20,000 bottles, he is showing the world, or a select few, all the virtues and characteristics of the region’s quintessential variety, the Nebbiolo.
Made from extraordinary vineyards in the DOC Langhe Nebbiolo, Cascina Morassino Langhe Nebbiolo is a single-variety Nebbiolo made from old vines dating back to 1970, which, on calcareous marl soils at about 300 metres above sea level, are at their best. To achieve this, the Bianco family practices respectful agriculture and, once the grapes have been harvested at optimum ripeness, they are fermented and macerated in the winery with native yeasts. Finally the wine is aged for a minimum of 18 months in foudres.
Taking all that into account, although we cannot be sure that all old vines make good wines, what we do know for certain is that, coming from this terroir and these people, Cascina Morassino Langhe Nebbiolo is a premium wine. Body, delicacy and balance on all four sides.
Cascina Morassino Langhe Nebbiolo 2019 is a concentrated red wine with rich aromas of ripe black fruit, followed by spicy hints of vanilla and leather and hints of violets. On the palate it is fine, elegant and well structured. A medium to full-bodied wine that is pleasantly tannic, backed by a strong freshness and with a long, lingering finish. |
