Casajou La Teixonera

Laia Esmel Jou and Jaume Vilaseca are the progenitors of Celler Casajou. They are two connoisseurs of sparkling wines who one day mustered the courage to embark on their own winemaking venture in 2020. To this end, they sought out vineyards lacking generational succession situated between Montserrat and the Mediterranean Sea, that is, in the Alt Penedès, and established a micro-winery on the ground floor of their home in Sant Jaume Sesoliveres (Barcelona). Thus, with the intention of conveying the soul of the terroir and their fervor for nature and wine, they introduce us to productions modest in quantity, yet profound in essence.

One of these wines is Casajou La Teixonera, a sparkling wine originating from a vineyard named after a nearby stream (La Teixonera). Encircled by forest, its clay soils support vines of Garnacha Tinta. Biodynamic farming is practiced, and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, the whole grapes macerate for 6 hours in a chilled environment, followed by a gentle pressing. Fermentation is conducted with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks under temperature control. Subsequently, the base wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle and rests on its lees to achieve creaminess and balance.  

Casajou La Teixonera is a profound statement in favor of village life. It beautifully demonstrates that the rural, the small-scale, and the traditional possess a unique charm. A true revelation for those seeking to indulge in the essence of the terroir, and with limited units available in the market, they are bound to be swiftly coveted.
