About Canadian Club Blended Whisky

Hiram Walker founded his distillery in Detroit in 1858, but due to the movement towards the prohibition of distilling in Michigan, he decided to move to Ontario (Canada) where he perfected his craft. Walker’s whisky gained popularity in gentlemen’s clubs in the United States and Canada, hence the name Whisky Club.
 
In order to distinguish Walker’s whisky from other competing products, the American distillers requested that the word “Canada” be included on the bottle. Hiram Walker blended corn, barley and rye before placing them in American oak barrels, resulting in a smooth, high quality and pure spirit, which was also aged for five years, when bourbon was aged for less than one. 
 
Canadian Club Blended Whisky is now made from hand-selected rye grain, rye malt, barley malt and corn. Corn spirit is used as a base whisky because it is odourless and tasteless. Rye, rye malt and barley give Canadian Club its unique flavour, which is rounded off by six years of aging in bourbon barrels made from white American oak, resulting in a whisky with hints of rye that is characterised by its smoothness and a slightly smoky finish.
