About Azienda Agricola Camparo DOC Nebbiolo d'Alba Rosso
In 1990, when Mauro Drocco assumed control of the family enterprise, he had no hesitation: it was evident to him that the next logical step was to transition to organic farming. Indeed, he was among the pioneering vintners in northern Italy to embrace this approach to cultivation; however, it wasn't long before he was no longer alone in this endeavor, as others followed suit. It is only through this philosophy, predicated on complete respect and minimal intervention, that one can truly harness and express the full essence of Piedmont, specifically from the D.O.C. Nebbiolo d'Alba, the birthplace of the red wine Azienda Agricola Camparo DOC Nebbiolo d'Alba Rosso.
The Azienda Agricola Camparo DOC Nebbiolo d'Alba Rosso is a single-varietal wine made from Nebbiolo (one of the indigenous grape varieties of northern Italy) and has been aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels and subsequently in the bottle.
The harvest for this red wine begins in old vineyards, aged between 20 and 40 years, located in the hills of the Langhe, specifically in the village of Diano d'Alba. Here, the family, which traditionally engaged in grape selling, has conventionally cultivated various grape varieties including Barbera and Dolcetto. Although each variety has a different destiny within the different D.O.Cs that Azienda Agrícola Camparo produces, their origin is the same, rooted in clayey-calcareous soils, with siliceous and marly components. Similar philosophies are applied in the vineyard management, always relying on manual labor, eschewing chemical products, and utilizing cover crops such as peas, barley, or oats to nourish the soil and attract diseases away from the vines.
In the cellar, Azienda Agricola Camparo DOC Nebbiolo d'Alba Rosso is pressed and the must is transferred directly to stainless steel tanks where it undergoes alcoholic fermentation. In the case of this winery, Azienda Agrícola Camparo is known for its extended fermentations (lasting between 20 and 30 days), during which indigenous yeasts play a crucial role, imparting a distinctive and unmistakable character to each batch. Upon completion, and with appropriate pump-overs to ensure constant contact between the skins and the must, Azienda Agricola Camparo DOC Nebbiolo d'Alba Rosso is transferred to 25 hL French oak barrels for an aging period of 12 to 18 months prior to bottling. Finally, Azienda Agricola Camparo DOC Nebbiolo d'Alba Rosso undergoes a final maturation in the bottle, resting for an additional six months before being released for sale.
At the beginning of this tale, Mauro Drocco had a clear vision. We can only hope that you share his clarity. We assure you that Azienda Agricola Camparo DOC Nebbiolo d'Alba Rosso will not disappoint.
