Barraco Terre Siciliane Vignammare 2019 is a white wine with aromas of white fruit, floral notes and very persistent marine touches. On the palate it is pleasant, combining the fruity flavour with vibrant acidity. A fresh, easy-drinking wine with bitter hints of iodine and seaweed.

About Barraco Terre Siciliane Vignammare

One of the major European wine producers, Sicily is one of the most important wine regions in Italy. With landscapes right by the sea, mountains, poor soils, low rainfall and plenty of sunshine, this country has the perfect conditions to have produced a large number of wines throughout its history. However, since the end of the 20th century, Sicily has seen a winemaking revolution powered by young winegrowers who champion quality over quantity. These are committed producers who ignore the rules dictated by the denominations of origin and instead promote ancient viticulture, recovering the most authentic expression of the place. One of the most committed members of this movement is undoubtedly Nino Barraco. As he himself says “I seek to capture the connection between wine and place. Our aim is to showcase Sicily, in particular the Marsala terroir, recovering the traditional culture of artisan winemakers using grapes alone”

One of his essential wines is Barraco Terre Siciliane Vignammare. Originating in a vineyard 30 metres from the sea, on limestone-rich red soils, this wine is made from the Grillo grape, a variety that is native to the Marsala area with very unique organoleptic properties. Their work is biodynamic and the vineyard is managed organically. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand, they are macerated for 2 days on the skins and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts and without temperature control in stainless steel tanks. This is where it stays with its lees for 6 months. There is no filtering at any point in the process and almost no sulphites are used.

The result is Barraco Terre Siciliane Vignammare, a unique production of the IGT Terre Siciliane with a character that is strongly linked to the area and to nature. A clear and vertical wine with abundant marine hints, pure Mediterranean!
