About Baltasar Gracián Viñas Viejas El Héroe

Baltasar Gracián Viñas Viejas is a red wine from Calatayud produced by Cooperativa San Alejandro. This wine is a varietal Grenache.

The grapes come from vines between 60 and 80 years old. They grow on glass with a natural drainage. The plots are located in mountainous areas between 800 and 1,000 metres above sea level. The soils are stony.

The climate is predominantly continental and the average yield is 3,000 kilos per hectare. The grapes are harvested in early October and the clusters, once they have been selected, are fermented in stainless steel tanks for 15 to 25 days at a maximum temperature of 30 °.

Baltasar Gracián Viñas Viejas ages finally in French oak barrels of 225 and 500 litres for 10 months.

San Alejandro is one of the most renowned wineries in Calatayud. Founded in 1962, the winery has a strong export orientation.

Baltasar Gracián Viñas Viejas El Héroe 2018 is a robust and classic red wine. The bouquet suggests ripe fruit, dried herbs, creamy oak, and sweet spices. 2013 Good entrance, it is tasty and balanced. Toasted and fruit notes give it balance.

Strong cherry red colour.

Notes of berries and red fruits. Mineral and balsamic touches with hints of wood. High intensity.
2011 Large and warm attack. It has a pleasant and soft mid-palate, with the fruit and the wood in harmony. Good acidity and ripe tannins. In the mouth, it is a tasty wine with an intense concentration of fruit and toasted hints that leave a persistent and balanced reminiscence.

Intense cherry red colour. Clean and bright.

It shows a clean and high intensity nose in which aromas of fruits of the forest, red fruit and slight floral notes stand out. Its aromatic intensity provides mineral nuances together with typical notes of its ageing and pleasant roasted aromas. Balsamic hints in the background refresh the whole.
2010 Broad and warming attack. Enjoyable and smooth on the palate, with a good balance between the fruit and the wood. Good acidity and ripe tannins. Tasty with an intense concentration of fruit and toasted tones which leave a persistent and balanced nuance lingering. 

An intense picota cherry colour, clean and bright.

A clean, medium-high intensity nose with aromas of forest fruits, red fruit and flowers. Its aromatic intensity provides mineral touches with accompany nice roasted notes from its ageing. Balsamic hues in the background refresh the set. 
2009 Wide and warm attack. Very tasty and sweet wine, with a soft mid palate, marked by its balanced notes of fruit and wood. Good acidity and slightly sweet soft tannins. Very good and persistent finish. Excellent wine that leaves very good sensations.

Very bright and intense dark cherry colour. Medium-high robe. Thin tears.

Intense and concentrated aromas among which the notes of ripe red fruit, almost jam, take centre stage. The notes provided by the good wood (toasted and smoked notes) emerge along with balsamic aromas and floral touches which round out the nose of this wine.
2008

Good attack. Rich, sweet and very nice mid palate, rich with fruit aromas. Ripe tannins. Cool, concentrated, full bodied and dry red wine. Lingering finish.



Dark and shiny deep cherry red. Dense tear which dyes the glass.

Very intense aromas. Dominance of the aromas of berries and red fruits with mineral and balsamic notes accompanied by touches provided by the oak (toasted, smoked and some cocoa).
2007 Good entry, delicious, with intense concentration of fruit and toasty tones that make a balanced and persistent memory.

Red pillory.

Aromas of forest fruits and berries. Its aromatic intensity suggests balsamic tones and mineral involved in a touch of wood.
