About Ata Rangi Lismore Pinot Gris
Ata Rangi Pinot Gris Lismore is an organic barrel-fermented white wine made by the Ata Rangi winery with the Pinot Gris variety in Wellington (New Zealand).
Ata Rangi, which means “sky at dawn”, was set up in 1980 when the Paton family read a scientific study that set out the geological and climatic similarities of this southern tip of the North Island (New Zealand) with the prestigious Burgundy region. 30 years later, this small winery in the town of Martinborough is known around the world for its Pinot Noir and, in general, for its concentrated, powerful and very mineral wines.
Ata Rangi Lismore Pinot Gris comes from their own vines with an average age of 20 years old and planted on gravel soils. These are strains that enjoy free drainage and a very windy and dry climate; with no humidity that causes diseases. A founding member of SWNZ (Sustainable Winegrowing of New Zealand), they use 100% organic farming and the strain yields are limited but very concentrated. Once the grapes are ripe, they are harvested manually and taken straight to the winery.
The clusters are then pressed whole and the must is cooled before being vinified. Ata Rangi Lismore Pinot Gris then ferments in small stainless steel tanks and in 500-litre oak barrels. In both cases the must remains on lees for several months without malolactic fermentation.
Influenced by Alsace wines, this Ata Rangi Lismore Pinot Gris showcases the style of the Wellington area. Fruity power and impressive minerality.

2018 | Ata Rangi Lismore Pinot Gris 2018 is an aromatic white wine with intense aromas of white pear and apple and impressive mineral notes. On the palate the powerful fruity flavour is still clear. A well balanced wine, with texture and with a great mineral intensity right to the finish. |
