Alvear Vermouth Rojo Artesano de Pedro Ximénez

Vermouth.
Alvear Vermouth Rojo is a very powerful and deep vermouth. On the nose there are notes of citrus, toasted caramel, dried fruits, sweet spices, woodwork and raisins. On the palate it is balanced and broad, elegant and spicy. Floral background complemented with toasted aromas, PX coffee and noble wood. Very long and defined finish.
About Alvear Vermouth Rojo Artesano de Pedro Ximénez
His father was Mayor of the noble State of Nájera, in La Rioja (in the north of Spain) and Administrator of the Royal Revenues in Córdoba (in the south). This latter position forced him and his entire family to move to Montilla, a village in the south of this Andalusian province, where his love for the countryside and for wine was born. This passion, completely different to what the rest of his family had done, was what led Diego de Alvear y Escalera to found his wineries in 1729. This is how the Alvear winery was born.
Not many businesses in the south of Spain can boast as much history and tradition as the Alvear winery, one of the oldest in Andalusia where they jealously guard fortified wines over a century old and unique and exclusive recipes like Alvear Vermouth Rojo. Now that the aperitif is once again part of our weekend routine, Bernardo Lucena, Alvear’s winemaker, has brought back this vermouth made by macerating different herbs and botanicals, like mugwort, rosemary, sage, cinnamon and orange peel. However, the unique and special touch of Alvear Vermouth Rojo comes from its aging in American oak casks touched by Pedro Ximénez oloroso. Finally, a small amount of the house’s fresh and elegant Pedro Ximenez is added for balance, and the result is Alvear Vermouth Rojo, a spectacle of the D.O. Montilla-Moriles.
