Alto Moncayo is produce using grapes of the Garnacha variety. The grapes come from old vines between 40 and 70 years old planted at the foot of Moncayo, a mountain which stands at 2,315 meters tall.
The vines are planted at an altitude of between 500 and 800 meters, where there is a very cold and dry continental climate. Also in this region, a wind coming in from the northwest called ‘El Cierzo’ evapourate low rainfall. These factors result in the grapes taking a longer time to ripen, which helps result in wines with lots of fruit and minerality.
The soil on which the vineyard is planted is very a stony soil, containing limestone and slate. It is a Poor soils that give exceptional grapes.
