About Alaya Tierra

Alaya Tierra is a red wine made by Bodegas Atalaya in Almansa, Albacete.

Atalaya Bodegas Juan Gil belongs to Family Wineries, the group responsible for the well-known Juan Gil, or Clio, or Shaya for name just a few.
 

Bodegas Atalaya is a relatively new winery, which was established in 2007. Alaya Earth is a single varietal Garnacha Tintorera.

The grapes come from old vines planted at an altitude of about 1,000 meters above sea level. They are exposed to a continental climate with very low rainfall. Vineyards are very low yield, but offer a fruit of great quality, with a great concentration of colour and aromas.
 

Fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks. Alaya Tierra is aged for 15 months in in French oak barrels and a small proportion in American oak.

A powerful, dense Almansa wine with character. Able to show the essence of the earth.

2022

2021

Alaya Tierra 2021 is an enthralling red wine that captivates with its elegance and robustness. Upon tasting, it reveals a broad and enveloping palate, displaying a pronounced character and a lingering finish that beckons one to continue savoring its concentrated fruit expression. This wine exemplifies a harmonious balance between the maturity of the fruit and its full-bodied structure.
2018

Alaya Tierra 2018 is a richly concentrated red wine exuding powerful scents of stewed black fruits, infused with spicy undertones and hints of roasted nuances. Upon tasting, it reveals a broad, enveloping, and profound depth. This wine is characterized by exceptionally smooth tannins and a lingering, enduring finish.

2016 Alaya Tierra 2016 is one of the most powerful red grenache wines of the Iberian Península. With a maturity taken to the limit and a stay in the barrel of 15 months, they turn it into a concentrated and muscular red wine. Aromas of ripe fruit are mixed with the spices of its ageing in the barrel.
2013 The taste is a powerful and elegant. Meaty, dense, concentrated, mature. With great presence of fruit. Tannins present with good acidity. Aftertaste is very long and persistent.

Intense cherry colour. Dense, shiny and satiny.

A complex and intense nose. Great presence of very ripe red and black fruit, toasted and roasted notes and memories from the barrel. Spices, minerals. Concentration and elegance.
2012 This Spanish wine shows bulky, elegant and powerful attack, and is firm and fleshy on the palate, coating the mouth in nice fruity flavours. It is dense and concentrated with its tannins are noticeable, along with its good acidity and aromas of fine woods. A very balanced wine with a long and very persistent finish.

Intense and dark cherry colour with violet reflections and a maroon rim. Dense, bright and glyceric.

A red wine with a high aromatic intensity. Once it opens out it shows complexity and is concentrated and elegant. This new vintage stands out because of its notes of ripe black fruit and its initial milky notes. Spicy, toasted, roasted, herbal and mineral aromas become increasingly noticeable.
2011 This Spanish wine shows a voluminous, elegant and powerful attack, and a firm and fleshy mid palate. It coats the mouth with nice fruity aromas. It is dense and concentrated and its tannins, its noble wood aromas and its good acidity are highly noticeable. Long and very persistent, balanced finish.

A red wine with a high aromatic intensity. As it gets aerated it shows a good strength, a nice complexity, concentration and elegance. This new vintage stands out for its notes of ripe black fruit and its initial milky notes. Its spicy, toasted, roasted, herbal and mineral aromas are increasingly noticeable.
2010 It has a powerful, wide and bulky attack and a firm, fleshy, dense and very concentrated mid palate. Its tannins are highly noticeable along with the notes of fine wood and a good and balanced acidity. Long and very persistent finish. This is a very well structured and full-bodied red wine.

Intense and dark, almost black ripe cherry colour with maroon edges. Dense and bright.

High aromatic intensity. As the wine opens up, its high powerness turns into complexity, concentration and elegance. Its aromas of very ripe black fruit are released along with spicy and toasted notes and milky, grassy and mineral nuances.
2009 A serious, tasty and balanced round wine. It shows a powerful, warm, very large and embracing attack and a silky, dense, tasty and fresh mid palate. The toasted notes felt in the nose are noticed again and become more expressive. Nice perfectly integrated tannins are also noticed. Excellent acidity. Very well structured wine with a very long and very persistent finish.

Very dark and intense black cherry colour, with light maroon edges. Bright wine with dense and slow-falling tears.

Very elegant and very intense aromas. On its great background of noble woods, the expressive notes of very ripe black fruit are mixed with spices, milky touches and mineral hints. When it opens up, it gain in expressiveness and intensity keeping always the fruit at center stage.
