About Afortunado
Afortunado is a wine from the D.O. Rueda crafted by Viñedos Singulares, a winery that produces wines across various appellations. This winery was founded by two brothers, Luis and Carlos Barrero.
The climate in this region is Mediterranean but with a distinct continental influence. It is characterised by long, cold winters, short springs with late frosts, and hot, dry summers.
This wine is a single-variety verdejo made from grapes sourced from century-old vines located in the Segovian municipalities of Moraleja de Coca, Santiuste, Nava de la Asunción, Codorniz, and Aldeanueva del Codonal. The vineyards are situated at 900 metres above sea level. Thanks to this altitude, the variety exhibits an unprecedented freshness.
As for the production process, it involves a cold maceration of the grapes with their skins before being gently pressed. Subsequently, fermentation takes place over a period of 20 days.
Finally, the wine remains for several months in stainless steel tanks on the lees. A straightforward white wine, fresh and easy to drink.
