About Muster Graf Sauvignon
Muster Graf Sauvignon is a barrel-aged white wine made by Sepp & Maria Muster in Weinland Österreich, Steiermark (Austria) with the Sauvignon Blanc variety.
Sepp & Maria Muster are a winemaking couple who started their project in 2000 on their parents’ 10-hectare estate. Located in the south of Styria, near the Slovenian border, they have used biodynamic agriculture from the beginning and in 2003 they were awarded Demeter certification. They had no issues gaining this certification since their vines had never been treated with chemicals. Working to the philosophy of “less is more” they have become true pioneers of biodynamic wines.
Muster Graf Sauvignon is a wine that comes from 30-year-old vines planted in the typical local soils known as opok. These are soils composed of limestone and clayey silt. The vines are organically cultivated using natural composting techniques and biodynamic preparations, always following the astronomical calendar.
Once the Muster Graf Sauvignon grapes have been manually harvested, they are destemmed for vinification. This involves a spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in 1200-litre wooden barrels. The wine is then transferred to 225-litre barrels for 23 months. It is finally bottled without being filtered, clarified or adding sulphur.
Named using the German word for ‘Count’ (Graf), Muster Graf Sauvignon is a biodynamic white wine that, through its birthplace and production process, is a true noble, filled with natural beauty.
2015 | Muster Graf Sauvignon 2015 is a white wine with aromas of ripe white fruit, mineral notes and hints of caramel. On the palate it is dry, juicy and somewhat effervescent. A wine that combines a refreshing acidity with an outstanding creaminess. Simply unpredictable. |
