About Le Macchiole Paleo
Le Macchiole Paleo is a monovarietal Cabernet Franc red wine from the IGP Tuscany produced by Le Macchiole.
Le Macchiole is a benchmark winery in Bolgheri, one of the most important winegrowing areas in Italy. With their philosophy and their efforts,Cinzia Merli and Eugenio Campolini, the couple that founded the winery, have helped to increase their region’s fame. By constantly evolving in search of the best way to interpret the territory, they cultivate their vineyards organically and produce less extractive and more elegant wines than they did when they started out.
The vineyards for Le Macchiole Paleo are three plots called Puntone, Vignone and Casa Nuova. They were planted in 1994, 1998,1999 and 2009 respectively. The vines are trained in Guyout style and using the double Royat Cordon system. They produce about 800 grams per plant, a low yield that allows their grapes to be dense and with balanced compounds.
Le Macchiole Paleo is vinified in cement tanks. It macerates with the skins for 25 days and then undergoes ageing in new oak barrels for 18 months.
Le Macchiole Paleo was produced for the first time in 1989 and is the winery’s emblem wine. At first it was a mixture of Bordeaux varieties, but in 2001 the decision was made to start making it as a monovarietal Cabernet Franc. Its name refers to a wild grass from the Tuscan coast that symbolises the identity of the territory and the stubbornness in attaining every goal.

2015 | Le Macchiole Paleo 2015 has a very fruity nose. Aromas of blackberry, picota cherry compote and touches of rosemary or of undergrowth, lavender and citrus appear. On the palate it has a great body and a generous amount of fruit, with good tannins that support its structure. It is fine and elegant with a lingering finish. |
