About Le Macchiole Messorio
Le Macchiole Messorio is a monovarietal Merlot red wine from the IGP Tuscany produced by Le Macchiole.
Le Macchiole is a benchmark winery in Bolgheri, one of the most important winegrowing areas in Italy, and was founded at the beginning of the 1980s. Fruit of the constantly evolving search for the best way to interpret the territory, it has gone over to cultivating its vineyards organically, and produces refined and elegant wines.
Le Macchiole Messorio comes from two plots named Puntone and Vignone. The first was planted in 1994 and the second in 1999. The vines are trained in Guyot style and in the double Cordon Royat system with short pruning. The yields are low, approximately 800 grams per plant, which ensures that the vines produce a balanced and concentrated grape. Both plots are normally harvested during the first two weeks of September, at their optimum ripeness.
Le Macchiole Messorio ferments and macerates for about 25 days, one part in cement tanks, and another in stainless steel tanks. Once fermented, the wine is aged for 18 to 24 months in new French oak barrels.
Le Macchiole Messorio was first produced in 1994. It is a wine with a great impact and personality, which sets it apart from conventional Merlots. Its name refers to the picking and harvest, a fundamental period in all agricultural activity.

2016 | Le Macchiole Messorio 2016 has aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, cedar and red tea, and balances the red fruit perfectly with the spicy elements. On the palate its finish and tannins are sweet. It is a rich and intense wine that will stand up well over the years. |
