About Domaine Weinbach Pinots Furstentum Grand Cru
When one mentions Alsace, the thought of white wine inevitably follows. It is almost inextricable to discuss this northern region of France without conjuring images of its aromatic and dry single-varietal riesling and gewürztraminer wines. Yet, there is always an exception that proves the rule, and that exception is Domaine Weinbach Pinot's Furstentum Grand Cru.
The pinot gris, pinot blanc, and auxerrois varieties lend their essence to this barrel-fermented white wine crafted by the esteemed Domaine Weinbach. Its provenance lies in the Kaysersberg valley, specifically within the esteemed grand cru Furstentum area, situated on a slope that is home to some of the region's most prestigious vineyards. This is largely attributable to its south-southeastern exposure and its calcareous, stony soil that boasts excellent porosity, retaining warmth and moisture. These attributes are ideal given the continental climate of the region, characterized by cold winters and hot, dry summers. Here, the vines of Domaine Weinbach flourish between altitudes of 300 and 400 meters and are cultivated using biodynamic practices (this approach has been embraced for all the estate's vineyards since 1998).
The narrative of Domaine Weinbach Pinot's Furstentum Grand Cru also encompasses a critically important element: oak. Specifically, this white wine ferments in oak barrels and matures on its lees within them for at least fourteen months—though this duration may vary with each vintage. This commitment to oak is a significant hallmark of Domaine Weinbach, as the winery continues to honor the traditional vinification methods that have been practiced in the region for years, despite changing trends. The gentle pressing process also warrants mention, for at Domaine Weinbach there is a steadfast pursuit of a gentle, high-quality extraction that avoids excessive pressure. Such is the case with Domaine Weinbach Pinot's Furstentum Grand Cru.
We could regale you with countless tales about this wine. We might spend paragraphs extolling its virtues. But it is clear that until you savor a glass of Domaine Weinbach Pinot's Furstentum Grand Cru, you will not fully grasp our meaning. Acquire a bottle and do not hesitate (wink, wink).
2020 |
Domaine Weinbach Pinot’S Furstentum Grand Cru 2020 is a succulent red, boasting a deep garnet hue, with a profoundly intense and intricate bouquet, predominantly fruity (cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant) with subtle hints of vanilla. On the palate, it is velvety, with silky tannins and a prolonged finish.
