About Catena Malbec

When a wine connoisseur of Robert Parker's stature suggests purchasing wine by the case, it is indicative of an exceptionally high-quality production. This notion is further reinforced when the label bears the signature of the prestigious bodega Catena Zapata. No further endorsement is needed. Under the stewardship of Laura Catena, the fourth generation of a distinguished line of vintners, and Alejandro Vigil, the chief winemaker, this winery is heralded as one of Argentina’s most acclaimed, renowned for crafting premium malbec wines in Mendoza, one of the key wine-producing regions of this Andean nation. The winery's offerings are the result of an extensive diversity of soils, microclimates, and elevations meticulously studied over decades by the technical team to achieve the finest expressions of their terroir.

Their Catena Malbec is a single-varietal malbec sourced from historic vineyards situated at altitudes ranging from 920 to 1,450 meters above sea level, with alluvial, limestone, and stony soils. The vineyard practices sustainable agriculture, and the harvest is meticulously handpicked at the peak of ripeness. In the winery, after a pre-fermentative maceration of 5 days at 8.8°C, fermentation commences with indigenous yeasts for 10-16 days, followed by a maceration period of 19 to 22 days. Subsequently, the wine matures for 6-8 months in oak barrels of first, second, and third use.
