About The Standish Lamella
Dan Standish has a long-standing connection with wine. As the latest generation of a family dedicated to viticulture since the mid-19th century, this winemaker—already recognized as a significant figure—has achieved his goal: to showcase all the best of southern Australia. And he has succeeded. One such demonstration is The Standish Lamella.
Fermented 100% with whole clusters from ungrafted old vines, The Standish Lamella is a red wine you mustn't miss for anything in the world. Just west of Barossa Valley, in Eden Valley, lies the origin of this wine. Specifically, it can be found at Hutton Vale Farm, the property of the Angas family, where the northernmost vineyards are reserved for the production of The Standish Lamella. Only Dan, with the help of the owners, has access to this area located between Mt Edelstone and Hill of Grace, where an excellent syrah grows, from which only the best is extracted. Here, this variety—one of the essentials of the region—thrives on rolling hills, where the slope is moderately undulating, on sandy and clayey soils mixed with quartz gravel, iron, and rock fragments. This composition ensures that after the infrequent rains, the water drains easily, keeping the roots dry and free from moisture.
The Standish Lamella is hand-harvested and ferments in open tanks with indigenous yeasts and spontaneously. Once ready, The Standish Lamella is racked and foot-pressed, separating the solid parts from the liquid. Following a final ageing in barrels, The Standish Lamella is bottled, ready to dazzle. Don't let your palate miss out!
