About The Standish

In 1999, Dan Standish began crafting his own wines. While balancing his work at Torbreck Vintners, this winemaker advanced his personal project. Today, fully established, he is a global benchmark. But how did it all start? With The Standish.

After training abroad (in France, California, and Spain), combined with an innate and genetic knowledge (Dan represents the sixth generation of a family of vintners), this eminent winemaker debuted solo with this red wine, characterized by depth and character, where tradition and modern techniques converge.

To find the origin of The Standish, one must travel to the Greenock vineyards, owned by the Laycock family (in the south of Australia in the Barossa Valley). Here, the true protagonists are the century-old ungrafted vines that withstood the phylloxera plague of the 19th century. It seems this insect, which attacked the plant from the roots, could not affect these vines. It's well known: the advantages of living on an island. Quite an immense fortune. Not everyone has the privilege (and responsibility) of working with vines of this age. In the case of Dan Standish, he has been doing so since 2005. Here, the predominant red variety is syrah, which grows on soils of ironstone gravel and schist at 314 meters above sea level. This elevation is balanced by gentle hills and undulations, allowing for proper soil drainage. Part of The Standish, specifically 30%, is made with whole clusters and fermented in open vats, maturing later in French oak barrels for a time that varies depending on the vintage.

Muscular, silky, and powerful. Great aging potential; a delight for your palate. The Standish is a classic that will never go out of style (no matter how hard you try).
