About Tilenus Mencía Roble

The pleasure of a great wine lies not only in its taste but in the history and dedication that accompany it. Founded in 1999, Bodegas Estefanía stands as an emblem of the D.O. Bierzo. With century-old vines at its heart, this winery blends tradition and excellence to offer wines that capture the essence of a privileged region. 
 
Under the guidance of the renowned winemaker Raúl Pérez, twice awarded 'Best Winemaker in the World' and distinguished with 100 Parker points, his wines reflect an unparalleled passion for the land and nature.
 
Tilenus Mencía Roble is an artisanal expression of this philosophy. Crafted from Mencía grapes, sourced from vineyards situated at an altitude of 450 metres, the plots that nourish it range between 30 and 70 years old. Surrounded by cherry, quince, and apple trees, the vines grow in harmony with the biodiversity of their environment. The harvest is conducted manually, with bunches selected by hand before being destemmed. Fermentation, carried out with indigenous yeasts, preserves the genuine character of the variety and terroir.
 
After a light and gentle pressing, the wine rests in French oak barrels of varying toasts for a period that varies according to the needs of each harvest, though never exceeding 12 months. This process endows Tilenus Mencía Roble with a balanced structure, soft tannins and an aromatic complexity featuring notes of red fruits, spicy hints, and subtle wood nuances.

Tilenus Mencía Roble 2021 exemplifies the balance of a vintage defined by the Atlantic character of Bierzo. On the nose, it reveals delicate notes of red fruit and a hint of spice that invites one to explore its complexity. On the palate, it is luscious and vibrant, with an enveloping freshness and a long finish that leaves a pleasurable sensation. Thanks to a year of moderate temperatures and low alcohol concentrations, this wine exhibits an exceptional harmony between smoothness and fruity depth, distinguished by its elegant vivacity.

Tilenus Mencía Roble 2017 is a pleasant red wine with aromas of red fruit, spiced notes and toasted hints from the barrel. On the palate it’s very fresh, light and enveloping. A medium-bodied wine with fine tannins and well-integrated acidity. The finish is lingering and elegant.

2007 Powerful, tasty, light and fresh wine with a velvety mid palate. Good acidity with strong balsamic aromas. Its mellow tannins are noticed in perfect harmony with the notes of ripe fruit. Very long finish that leaves fruity aromas.

Intense and pleasant aromas among which the notes of ripe fruit (which turn into notes of liquorise fruit) are mixed with the aromas provided by the oak during the ageing: spices, elegant toasted aromas and fresh balsamic touches. All of these apper on a light mineral background.
