About Tetramythos Retsina Amphore Nature
Although retsina, the result of a process where pine resin is added to a white wine base, has done incalculable damage to the reputation of Greek wine, not everything should be lumped together. The truth is that the new winegrowers are making a great effort to recover tradition without losing an iota of quality. Tetramythos, a winery owned by brothers Aristides and Stathis Spanos, and talented winemaker Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos, has managed to turn this reputation around by presenting Tetramythos Retsina Amphore Nature, an organic, natural, traditional and innovative retsina that, unlike the conventional ones, is made using a completely natural approach.
The raw material used to make Tetramythos Retsina Amphore Nature is of the highest quality. These are Roditis grapes from selected vineyards grown on the slopes of Mount Aroania, where the breezes from the Gulf of Corinth help produce fresh and balanced grapes. Work is organic and without any chemical products, and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, fermentation is carried out in clay amphorae made from local earth with native wild yeasts and minimal resin from the pine trees surrounding the vineyards. The wine then remains on its fine lees for 2 months and is bottled without clarifying or filtering and with almost no sulphur.
Tetramythos Retsina Amphore Nature is more than a local product. It is an unusual, fascinating and authentic PGI Peloponnese wine that highlights the high quality Greek winemaking tradition.
