About Soca-rel Manto Negro Fogoneu Escursac 2023

The story of Pep Rodríguez begins with his hands in the soil. Before wine, there were almonds, carob trees, and the first steps on a 200-hectare Mallorcan estate, where crops and animals coexisted in harmony. It was there, among sheep, donkeys, and cereals, that he absorbed the island's agricultural culture. A school of life, imparted without manuals and with great respect for the land.

Since the early 2000s, he has been practising organic farming with a deeply connected approach to natural rhythms. Influenced by those who viewed the countryside as an organic whole, he learned to work with the moon, integrate livestock into the vineyard, and allow the land to breathe when needed. His philosophy shuns haste and focuses on listening to the environment.

For over a decade, he quietly nurtured his most personal project. Finally, in 2020, Soca-rel was born—meaning pure stock in Mallorcan—a name that says it all: identity, origin, authenticity. Although the first vintage (2019) barely reached 2,000 bottles and hit the market during the height of the pandemic, it established a distinctive style, different, without compromises or shortcuts.

Now he presents Soca-rel Manto Negro Fogoneu Escursac. A wine inspired by the Rhône, but with the soul of Mallorca. Crafted exclusively from the local varieties manto negro, fogoneu mallorquín, and escursac, the vines are interspersed with olive and fruit trees to provide shade and refresh the plant's microclimate. After a manual harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and ferment with native yeasts. Then, the wine undergoes a 6-month maturation in stainless steel tanks.

Soca-rel Manto Negro Fogoneu Escursac is a vibrant, luscious, profound wine with character. A faithful reflection of a way of understanding life, the countryside, and the future of viticulture in Mallorca.
