Tasting notes Protos Crianza Magnum con estuche Gift
Red wine Crianza.
Protos Crianza is a red wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero crafted by Bodegas Protos.
Established in 1927, this winery can boast of being the inaugural winery in the Ribera del Duero region, hence the name "Protos", which in Greek signifies "first". The winery is located in the town of Peñafiel (Valladolid), nestled in the mountain where the Peñafiel Castle stands.
The Protos Crianza wine is exclusively made from Tinta del País (Tempranillo). The grapes are sourced from vineyards planted in infertile soils with low organic matter and a sandy-loam texture. The area's climate is of a continental Mediterranean type, characterized by dry and hot summers and cold, extended winters, with nocturnal frosts that can plummet to 18°C below zero. Furthermore, the significant thermal fluctuations between day and night promote a slow maturation of the grapes, which leads to a higher sugar accumulation and an enhanced concentration of tannins and polyphenols.
The production of Protos Crianza involves an initial aging in French and American oak barrels for 14 months, followed by a further 12 months of bottle aging, which serves to refine the wine.
