About Iria Otero Sal de Albariño

Since 2015, Iria Otero has scarcely taken a break. With her unique perspective on wine—always rooted in tradition and local grape varieties—this winemaker never ceases to amaze, whether working solo or in collaboration. In the case of Iria Otero Sal de Albariño, she is joined by Diego Velázquez (head of the distributor Velbendi), and together they astonish the world with this fresh and savoury white from the D.O. Rías Baixas

Iria Otero Sal de Albariño is the result of a personal project in which Iria and Diego leverage their relationships and friendships with other producers to create a personal interpretation of the D.O. Rías Baixas. For Iria Otero Sal de Albariño, they work with nearly two hectares located in the Salnés Valley, between Ribadumia and Castrelo. Specifically, the effort and selection have focused on old vineyards, aged between 16 and 25 years, growing on granite and sabrego soils (a sandy soil typical of the area formed by the decomposition of granite) and influenced by an Atlantic climate (mild temperatures throughout the year and abundant rainfall).

Despite not being born among vineyards or having a long family tradition, Iria Otero cannot conceive of viticulture without total respect for the raw material, making her one of the most meticulous producers in the current landscape. Always under an ecological approach, and based on manual and artisanal work, Iria Otero Sal de Albariño is harvested by hand and produced naturally, with minimal intervention. Fermentation occurs naturally and spontaneously in stainless steel tanks, with a slight ageing on lees (and also with some malolactic fermentation).

When friendship and a love for authenticity come together, delightful creations like Iria Otero Sal de Albariño can emerge. Cheers to the good things!
