About Impromptu Rosé

Schubert, Chopin, and Fauré were true masters of improvisation. In classical music, the impromptu is a piece, traditionally for piano, characterized by a fluid freedom that seems to emerge spontaneously in the moment. However, behind this apparent improvisation lies a rigorous structure, usually divided into three parts A-B-A. This tripartite form demonstrates that achieving a result that appears light, fresh, and natural requires overwhelming technical mastery. The same is true for great rosés. Crafting a wine that feels subtle, delicate, and free on the palate is not the result of chance but the outcome of meticulous precision in the vineyard and winery.

From the heart of the province of Valencia, in the region of Requena, Bodegas Hispano Suizas embodies this relentless pursuit of excellence. The project, born from the shared dream of Marc Grin, the oenologist Pablo Ossorio, and the viticulturist Rafael Navarro, seeks to explore a unique path based on signature wines with a personal stamp. The grapes come from their own vineyards located in the Utiel-Requena area, at an altitude of 750 metres, an ideal height where the Mediterranean climate is tempered by the influence of the interior, resulting in cool nights that preserve acidity. The pinot noir vines grow in low-yield plots on calcareous-clay soils, a poor terrain that forces the roots to delve deep for nutrients, imparting great finesse to the hand-harvested fruit.

The production of Impromptu Rosé follows a meticulous process where every second counts. After a manual selection, box by box in the vineyard, the grapes are destemmed, separating the berries from the woody structure of the bunch, and gently crushed. The entire grape mass is placed in stainless steel tanks chilled to zero degrees to undergo a cold skin maceration for barely two hours. This is followed by a gentle pneumatic pressing at very low pressure, and the must is left to settle cold for 24 hours in a static manner to cleanse impurities by gravity. The clean portion is transferred to new American oak barrels of 400 litres to begin the alcoholic fermentation, the process where yeasts convert sugars into alcohol. Finally, the wine undergoes ageing in contact with its fine lees, the decomposed yeast remains that add creaminess and volume, within spherical concrete tanks until bottling.

The result is a subtle, complex rosé of captivating elegance that combines the fruity freshness of pinot noir with a silky, enveloping texture. Impromptu Rosé is a gastronomic wine, with poise and a unique distinction that proves true mastery lies in making the complex appear simple.
