About Domaine Jean Foillard Beaujolais Nouveau

Simplicity doesn’t have to be at odds with quality and this is demonstrated year after year every third Thursday of November when Jean Foillard presents his Beaujolais Nouveau at the most anticipated festival in the Beaujolais region of southern Burgundy (France). This natural winemaker, who began to follow the teachings of Jules Chauvet in defiance of all the commercial brands, in addition to producing deep, structured and complex wines, is also capable of surprising us with simpler but equally exemplary wines.

This is clear to see with this Domaine Jean Foillard Beaujolais Nouveau, a young red wine whose grapes come from the famous granite and slate hill of the Côte de Py, located on the outskirts of the town of Villié-Morgon. These are old Gamay vines grown organically without any chemical products. The grapes are harvested by hand and, once they reach the winery, following the words of their master “Le vin, moins on le touche, mieux ça vaut” (The less you interfere with the wine, the better it will be), the grapes are vinified by carbonic maceration for 10 days with native yeasts. Finally, the wine is bottled without acidity correction, chaptalisation or filtration.

With this, Foillard always surprises us. While making ambitious wines that express the characteristics of the terroir with no frills, he presents us with this Domaine Jean Foillard Beaujolais Nouveau. A Beaujolais Nouveau that, without losing the jovial and simple style of this young wine of the year, offers impressive freshness and density.

2022

Domaine Jean Foillard Beaujolais Nouveau 2022 is a juicy red wine with aromas of fresh red fruit, floral notes and hints of undergrowth. On the palate it is delicate, pure and smooth. A wine with bright acidity, velvety smoothness and dense, powerful tannins. The finish is lingering and elegant.
