About Comoloco Monastrell Ecológico
Amidst the myriad of preparations heralded by the announcement of a baby's impending arrival, the selection of a name carries considerable weight. It is a profoundly meaningful choice for parents, as it reflects their values, familial traditions, or personal preferences. The tradition of bequeathing the father's name to the offspring, known as "homonymous naming" or "inherited names," is quite prevalent across numerous cultures. This custom not only serves to perpetuate the family lineage but also acts as a tribute to the father or other ancestors. In the case of Juan Gil, preserved through four generations, this name not only keeps the memory of loved ones alive but is also intertwined with the legacy of a winery specializing in the indigenous monastrell grape, nestled within the D.O. Jumilla. Thus, adhering to a work philosophy initiated by Juan Gil Giménez in 1916, the descendants persist in this legacy, adapting to modern times while preserving the spirit of dedication and excellence that has characterized the winery over the years.
One of their avant-garde wines is Comoloco Monastrell Ecológico, a red monastrell wine hailing from a vineyard known as "El Término de Arriba," characterized by its stony and calcareous soils and perched at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. The vineyard is cultivated organically, with low yields and without irrigation, and the harvest is manually executed at the optimal point of ripeness. In the winery, the grapes ferment and macerate in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures. After undergoing malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in these same tanks until it is bottled.
With the monastrell grape as the cornerstone of Juan Gil wines, Comoloco Monastrell Ecológico emerges as an innovative and cutting-edge expression from one of the most esteemed wineries of the D.O. Jumilla. A delightful and succulent monastrell that, as its name suggests, will have you returning "like mad" for more.
