About Château Nénin Fugue de Nénin

In 1997, Jean-Hubert Delon (owner of Château Léoville Las Cases in the Médoc) bought Château Nénin from his cousins (the Despujol family). This property, founded in 1847, was the birthplace of Château Nénin, the house's first wine and one of the great red wines of the Pomerol AOC. However, in the same year of its purchase, Jean-Hubert Delon decided to create and market another second house wine, Château Nénin Fugue de Nénin.

Experts say that it is very common for those born after the first child to suffer from what’s know as Second Child Syndrome, where the youngest child often feels neglected or unloved. This is not at all true of Château Nénin Fugue de Nénin, a red wine that is just as good (or even better) than its big brother. While Château Nénin is made only with grapes from the best plots (eight hectares), Château Nénin Fuge de Nénin will use the rest of the vineyards that grow on soils of different types: clay, siliceous gravel, quartz, granite, iron and basalt. A total of 32 hectares of these soils provide the merlot and cabernet franc with their unique and special tones.

In 1997, at the time of the sale transaction, Château Nénin was renovated and restructured, both the vineyard and the winery. Since then, the wines are carefully produced in fermentation rooms equipped with the latest technology and aged between 16 and 18 months in French oak barrels (some of them new). Pampering and care will be the finishing touches. This way, Château Nénin Fuge de Nénin can’t be jealous of its sibling.
