About A Pie de Tierra Fuerza Bruta
Although small, the ant is a potent symbol of perseverance, effort, and willpower. Through its tireless collective labour, it can overcome any challenge and achieve remarkable feats. Inspired by this philosophy, the sommelier Aitor Paul and the winemaker David Villamiel have joined forces to bring to life a unique project in the enchanting Sierra de Gredos.
Under the name A Pie de Tierra, which perfectly embodies the values of hard work, connection with nature, and perseverance, this passionate duo is committed to the revival and celebration of old garnacha, a variety that encapsulates the character of the terroir and the history of the region. Like ants, they work from the ground up, creating something extraordinary through dedication and love for wine.
Their inaugural wine, A Pie de Tierra Fuerza Bruta, features the image of an ant on the label, paying tribute to the effort required to embark on a new venture. This single-varietal garnacha is sourced from a vineyard located in the municipality of Aldea del Fresno, Madrid, with old vines aged between 50 and 90 years on granite soil. It is organically cultivated, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, the grapes undergo a maceration period of 50 days with stems and ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures in 2,000-litre chestnut barrels and used 1,500-litre foudres for several months. Finally, it is bottled without filtering or fining.
The result is a genuine wine of place from the D.O. Vinos de Madrid, a true reflection of the land where it was born and the effort of those who created it. A Pie de Tierra Fuerza Bruta not only pays homage to the terroir and old garnacha but also to the indomitable spirit of those who work with passion and patience.
