About Viña Real Gran Reserva
Viña Real Gran Reserva is a red wine made by the Viña Real winery in Laguardia, D.O.Ca. Rioja.
Viña Real is one of the wineries belonging toCVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) located in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa. In the 1920s CVNE launched the Viña Real brand, being one of the pioneers in the production of wines aged in oak barrels in this area, producing very elegant wines with all the character of the Rioja Alavesa.
The proximity of the vineyards to the old Camino Real was what inspired its name. These vineyards slope down from the Sierra Cantabria to the Ebro basin, lying on mostly clayey and chalky soils, thus being protected from the clearly Atlantic climate of the area by the mountains.
Viña Real Gran Reserva is a red wine made with Tempranillo y Graciano from a careful selection of the best grapes from the best estates in the winery.
Once the grapes are harvested, they ferment in stainless steel vats and then macerate with the skins for about 15 days. The malolactic fermentation is in French and American oak barrels with periodic manual decanting. The aging lasts for 24 months in the same barrels. Clarification with natural egg white. The wine stands in the bottle for a minimum of 36 months.
2011 | Viña Real Gran Reserva 2011 is a mature, complex and elegant red wine. An excellent vintage that displays the most refined style of Rioja Alabesa with character. A perfect blend of aromas of ripe red fruit with the notes of aging, roasted elements, tobacco and toffee. On the palate it is refined, with a harmonious mouthfeel and a very lingering finish. | |

2005 | Wide and bulky attack and a long, embracing, velvety mid palate, slightly unctuous with very balanced notes of fruit and wood. Well-bodied wine with a good structure. Excellent acidity and noble sweet tannins, very well integrated. Long and intense very persistent finish. Deep dark cherry colour with maroon reflections. Bright and clean red wine with a high robe and dense tears. Intense, complex and elegant aromas. Inicially, the aromas of spices, vanilla and coffee and the nice toasted and creamy notes provided during the ageing are noticed. After swirling the glass, very tasty notes of fruit are felt along with hints of candied nuts and a mild animal touch. Subtle balsamic background. |
