About Unculín Tinto
Unculín Tintois a red wine produced by José Antonio Garcia Viticultor in Valtuille de Abajo, D.O.Bierzo.
José Antonio García began this project in 2010. After training and working in the restoration industry in Barcelona, he decided to recover the old family vineyards and start to produce wines, with features that were loyal to the terroir and the varieties.
José Antonio García's family has 22 hectares of old vineyards, between 80 and 100 years old, divided into 75 plots. José Antonio also cultivates 4 more hectares of smaller winegrowers of the area. All of these vineyards are located between 500 and 600 metres, influenced by an Atlantic climate that is partly continental and mild.
José Antonio García works with respect towards the environment, performing organic winegrowing, and aiming to produce wines that represent the area, with local varieties, and always loyal to the terroir where they were born.
Unculín Tinto is a wine made from Mencía, from vineyards that are over 80 years old, planted on predominantly clayey soils.
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard. Once they arrive at the winery, 70% of the grapes are destemmed. They ferment in stainless steel deposits with wild yeasts. After this, the wine rests in the same deposits for a 4 months with their fine lees.
Unculín Tinto is a fresh, juicy and thin wine. A Mencía that is ideal for any time of day.
