About Tetramythos Mavro Kalavrytino Nature

Mavro is a rare grape from the northern Peloponnese (Greece) that the natural winemaking company Tetramythos is reviving to put back on the map. Although this variety is difficult to grow, it is very easy to love because it has all the energy of the fruity flavours and all the elegance and body of the noble varieties. Owned by brothers Aristides and Stathis Spanos, together with talented winemaker Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos, this winery is catching people’s attention because they are turning the region’s winemaking tradition into true works of art.

By preserving tradition as much as possible, they have succeeded in finding the purest expression of this local berry in their Tetramythos Mavro Kalavrytino Nature. The vineyards used to make this wine lie on the slopes of Mount Aroania, between 650 and 1050 metres above sea level, where the breezes from the Gulf of Corinth help produce fresh and balanced grapes. They are organically cultivated without using chemicals that could alter the intrinsic characteristics of the grapes. In the winery, fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and no added sulphites. The wine then ages in large oak tanks for 12 months. Finally, as with all of the winery’s “Nature” range, it is bottled unclarified, unfiltered and with a minimal dose of sulphur.

Considering that Tetramythos has been recognised for its constant dedication to local varieties for years, Tetramythos Mavro Kalavrytino Nature stands out as one of the few wines made from the incredible Mavro. A vibrant red wine with the purest expression of this historic variety.

Tetramythos Mavro Kalavrytino Nature 2021 is an elegant red wine exuding aromas of ripe red and black fruits, infused with spicy undertones and herbal nuances. On the palate, it reveals a succulent, vibrant and harmonious character. This moderately-bodied wine is graced with persistent acidity and velvety tannins. The finish is adorned with a delightful fruity aftertaste that lingers on the senses.
