About Terre Nere Brunello Di Montalcino

Tenuta delle Terre Nere is a family project that was set up in Sicily with a name meaning “black earth”, referring to the area’s volcanic soils. When Pasquale Vallone discovered the wonders of a piece of land for sale southeast of Montalcino, in Tuscany, through a friend, he didn’t think twice about embarking on a new adventure with the support of his brother Gaetano, his wife Piera and their two children Francesca and Federico. This is how Terre Nere Brunello Di Montalcino was born, a typical wine produced in this Tuscan wine region and made mainly from the Sangiovese Grosso grape variety, known locally as Brunello.

Terre Nere Brunello Di Montalcino is a red wine that comes from the Tuscan village of Castelnuovo dell'Abate. These are vines of the native Sangiovese Grosso or Brunello variety with an average age of 20 years old planted in schist soil at an altitude of 280 metres above sea level. Traditional agriculture is practiced, respecting the environment and harvesting by hand in 15 kg baskets when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine then spends 36 months in large Slovenian oak barrels. Finally it is bottled and stays in the winery for at least 6 months before being released for sale.

From Sicily to Tuscany with wine as the common thread, Terre Nere Brunello Di Montalcino is the result of a fascination for Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy’s most prestigious and renowned red wines, whose aromas and flavours are known for their depth, complexity and longevity and which the Vallone’s have managed to showcase perfectly.
