About Tenuta Meraviglia Maestro di Cava Bolgheri Superiore Rosso

The D.O.C. Bolgheri was first established on August 1, 1983. At that time, they only allowed white and rosé wines to be admitted. It was not until 1994, four years later, when the production of red wines under two new denominations was allowed: The D.O.C. Bolgheri Rosso and the D.O.C. Bolgheri Superior.

The great intensity and variety of aromas and flavours of these wines have always earned them special recognition, as they are unique. Their blend of Cabernet Franc with other varieties (like Merlot, Petit Syrah and sometimes Sangiovese) makes them unmistakable; even so, lately, many wineries have opted to make single-variety wines with some of these grapes. One of these wineries is Tenuta Meraviglia, with their Tenuta Meraviglia Maestro di Cava Bolgheri Superiore Rosso.

This Italian wine giant, a key player in the Alejandro Bolgheri Family Vineyards group, has opted for Cabernet Franc as the base for this single-variety wine, which ferments in concrete tanks and ages in French oak barrels.

The group currently owns a total of 150 hectares in the Tuscany area among its various wineries. Tenuta Meraviglia might be their most special. It lies next to the Tyrrhenian Sea, where the vineyards grow under the sea breezes and on soils where clays and limestone (the result of the action of the sea over the years) are mixed with small patches of volcanic origin (known as Rioliti di San Vicenzo).

When it comes to makingTenuta Meraviglia Maestro di Cava Bolgheri Superiore Rosso, this winery opts for non-invasive methods that are totally respectful of the wine, with spontaneous fermentations in raw concrete cone-shaped tanks. This fermentation, which happens spontaneously with native yeasts, lasts about 13 days. The final touch of Tenuta Meraviglia Maestro di Cava Bolgheri Superiore Rosso comes from the wood, because of the 24 months this wine spends in untoasted French oak barrels. We promise it will leave an impression on you!

2017

Tenuta Meraviglia Maestro di Cava Bolgheri Superiore Rosso 2017 is a concentrated red wine that is ruby red in colour with garnet reflections. The nose is very clean and frank, with aromas of ripe red fruits. The palate is intense with well-integrated tannins that give a fresh taste. Both the nose and the palate are very elegant, ending with a persistent finish with noticeable blackcurrant.
