About Te Mata Syrah Estate Vineyards
Te Mata Syrah Estate Vineyards is a barrel-aged red wine made by the Te Mata Estate winery in the Hawke’s Bay area of New Zealand with the Syrah variety.
Te Mata Estate, considered one of the 10 best wineries in New Zealand, has many years of history behind it. It all began in 1854, when the Chambers family, English immigrants, discovered the winemaking potential of the Hawke Valley area. The winery continues to make the most of the island’s terrain and climate to make world-renowned wines.
Te Mata Syrah Estate Vineyards comes solely from their own vineyards in Hawke Valley, an area of New Zealand known around the world for its excellent wines thanks to the soils and climate. They use traditional agriculture and sustainable practices, using plants and sheep rather than chemicals. Each plot is harvested individually at the optimum point of ripeness.
When the Te Mata Syrah Estate Vineyards grapes reach the winery, they are destemmed and crushed to begin maceration and alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature. It is then pressed and the resulting wine is transferred to new French oak barrels where it remains for five months with regular pump overs.
The result is this Te Mata Syrah Estate Vineyards, a classic Rhone-style red wine, made on the other side of the world. A fruity explosion from the other side of the world.

2018 | Te Mata Syrah Estate Vineyards 2018 is a richly concentrated red wine exuding scents of both red and dark berries, undertones of vanilla, and spicy hints of pepper. On the palate, it is full-bodied, silky, and boasts delicate tannins. A burst of dark fruit brimming with vivacity and flavor culminates in an enduringly persistent finish. |
