Queulat Gran Reserva is a wood-aged red wine made by Viña Ventisquero with the Carmenère and Syrah varieties in Maipo Valley, in Chile’s Central Valley.
In the year 2000, winemaker Felipe Tosso set up Viña Ventisquero in the Maipo Valley to showcase Chilean wines with personality and a modern style. With a motto of “one step further”, he expanded the project by acquiring estates in the Casablanca Valley and the Apalta Valley and is showing the world the diversity of these landscapes through his quality wines.
Queulat Gran Reserva comes from the Maipo Valley where the soils are composed of granite and stone and are highly permeable. The grapes ripen quickly due to high temperatures and low rainfall. They are cultivated using traditional agriculture, taking care of the environment and reducing CO2 emissions as much as possible. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually.
After the Queulat Gran Reserva grapes have been meticulously selected, they are placed in stainless steel tanks and a cold maceration at 6-8ºC begins. The must then ferments at 22-26ºC with daily pump-overs. Finally, the wine ages in French oak barrels for 12 months.
Against the backdrop of the Andes mountain range, a glass of Queulat Gran Reserva describes an exquisite terroir through all the senses. An intense and deep red wine from the prestigious Valle de Maipo wine region.
