Pedro Méndez Viño Branco do Val

Tasting notes Pedro Méndez Viño Branco do Val 2024
White wine Organic. 6 meses en depósitos de acero inoxidable y barrica.
Pedro Méndez Viño Branco do Val 2024 captivates with its straw-yellow hue and golden highlights. As you bring the glass to your nose, delightful aromas of stone fruits such as peach and apricot emerge, accompanied by delicate notes of white flowers, subtle herbaceous hints, and a mineral undertone that evokes its origin. On the palate, this albariño is refreshing and well-balanced, with a pronounced acidity that blends with a saline sensation, offering a broad experience filled with nuances of fruits and flowers. This vintage stands out for its distinctly defined expression, making it commendable for its ability to awaken the senses with its freshness and complexity.

About Pedro Méndez Viño Branco do Val
There are many Albariños... but not all have a story to tell. In a world where the Atlantic style has become a trend and albariño vanishes from the shelves as if swept away by the tide, Pedro Méndez reminds us that not all that glitters is gold... nor is everything labelled "albariño" truly so.
Pedro Méndez Viño Branco do Val is not a wine for everyone. It is for those who look beyond the label, for those who understand that the difference lies in the details. Because behind this bottle, there is much more than grapes: there are century-old vineyards, granite, sea spray, and the steady hand of a Galician who chose the long but genuine path.
Since 2015, Pedro has been working outside the D.O. Rías Baixas (Galicia), not out of rebellion, but out of conviction. To craft an albariño free of constraints, unaltered, that clearly speaks of its origin and character.
Pedro Méndez Viño Branco do Val originates from three plots in the heart of the Salnés Valley—Simes, Padriñán, and Vilalonga—with albariño vines nearing a century old, rooted in decomposed granite and clay soils, caressed by the breeze of the Ría de Arousa. The vineyards are organically cultivated, and the clusters are handpicked with care. Once in the winery, pressing is done without destemming to preserve its purity, and fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, with a partial malolactic fermentation that rounds and refines. Afterwards, the wine rests for 10 months on its fine lees in French oak barrels, gaining texture, complexity, and soul. Finally, a subtle filtration and a minimal dose of sulphur before bottling complete the process.
As a result, Pedro Méndez Viño Branco do Val is a wine with vigour, with life, with a salinity that reminds you of its maritime origins and a surprising ageing potential, shattering the myth that albariño is only for youthful consumption. So next time someone tells you that albariño is in vogue, pour them a Pedro Méndez Branco do Val and watch how it leaves them speechless.
