About Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir
With the aim of reconciling the conservation of biodiversity and human activity, in 1971 Unesco launched a project where geographical sites representing the earth’s different habitats were selected to promote innovative practices of sustainable development. They are called Biosphere Reserves, specific places that, as well as conserving and protecting biodiversity, are also responsible for local economic and social development. One of these fabulous international reserves, the Kogelberg Reserve (South Africa), is home to Paul Claver Wines. This family winery lies in Elgin Valley (Western Cape South Coast) and using the motto “blending wine and biodiversity”, they have earned worldwide respect.
Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir brings together everything the Cluver family believes in when it comes to winemaking. Their work involves a selection of vineyards of the Pinot Noir variety that they cultivate using responsible agriculture and manual harvesting at the optimum point of ripeness. In the winery, fermentation takes place in 3.5 ton wooden barrels and then the wine is pressed and transferred to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and 12 months of aging on lees.
As one of the first wineries in the country to maintain wilderness areas and nature reserves, it is no wonder their wines are true ambassadors for the Western Cape South Coast. As the winery itself says “our wine Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir is the maximum expression of our terroir”.
2017 |
Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir 2017 is a smooth red wine with aromas of red fruit accompanied by floral notes and hints of spice. On the palate it is firm, silky and flavoursome. A wine with good acidity, soft tannins and a long finish with interesting salty notes. |
