About Palazzo Rosso di Montalcino Cosimo
Even as we venture into new horizons and immerse ourselves in diverse cultures, our roots remain an integral part of our identity. This is something Cosimo Loia and Antonietta Palazzo know all too well. Hailing from Benevento, Italy, they found great success in England as restaurateurs, yet their dream was to discover an enchanting spot in their beloved Italy to spend their retirement days. It was then that they stumbled upon a 12-hectare estate in Montalcino, in Central Tuscany, a bewitching medieval town which, although not yet renowned in the 80s, was instantly recognized by Cosimo and Antonietta for its exceptional viticultural potential. A splendid estate overlooking the breathtaking Val d'Orcia, which, by serendipity, also bore Antonietta's surname. Forty years on, the third generation of the family is following in the founders' footsteps, and it is in homage to Cosimo that they present Palazzo Rosso di Montalcino Cosimo, a wine named after their grandfather, embodying the family's bond with their past, present, and future.
This is an exquisite Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy's most prestigious wines, crafted from the indigenous sangiovese grape (also known as brunello) grown from vines planted in 1985 on arid, stony soil primarily composed of small areas of limestone and sand with layers of gravel and rocks. The vineyard is cultivated using organic methods, and the grapes are handpicked at the optimal point of ripeness. In the winery, the selected grapes undergo fermentation in concrete vats without the addition of yeasts, and maceration lasts for 24 days with gentle pump-overs. Subsequently, the wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels of various sizes, 5hl - 10hl, for 40 months, followed by an additional 6 to 8 months in the bottle before release.
Palazzo Rosso di Montalcino Cosimo is a homage to the legacy and foresight of a family that found its home amongst the rolling hills of Montalcino. An elegant Brunello di Montalcino, crafted with care and passion, it reflects the enduring connection between the past, present, and future of the Loia-Palazzo family and serves as a reminder of the significance of our roots in shaping our identity and legacy.
