Ontañón Crianza 2022 is a succulent red wine, rounded and with a hint of mischief that captivates from the first sip, a result of a vintage that delivers exceptional quality. On the nose, it entices with a delightful blend of ripe black and red fruits, enveloped in soft notes of vanilla, coffee, and a smoky touch reminiscent of long afternoons and lively conversations. On the palate, it is expansive and flavourful, with polished tannins and a lingering finish that leaves behind the elegance of a well-crafted Rioja. A wine that proves simplicity, when crafted with soul, can be sheer class.

About Ontañón Crianza

In a melody, each note, though distinct, intertwines with the others to create a sublime symphony. In a culinary recipe, each ingredient, with its unique flavour, texture, and colour, combines to bring to life a delicious and balanced dish. In an ecosystem, every living being, from animals to plants and microorganisms, plays an essential role that ensures the equilibrium of the environment. When the different parts come together in harmony, the result is an extraordinary whole: original, unrepeatable, and full of beauty. It is with this very philosophy that Bodegas Ontañón, a family project established over 30 years ago in Rioja Oriental, has become a viticultural benchmark through wines that perfectly blend the native varieties of the region.

This is how Ontañón Crianza is born, a blend of tempranillo and garnacha, two indigenous varieties that, when expertly combined, are key to the inimitable identity of Rioja. With utmost respect in the vineyard and following sustainable techniques, quality grapes are obtained that ferment in the winery over 20 days, with 8 days of maceration. Afterwards, the wine matures in American oak barrels (60%) and French oak barrels (40%) for a duration of 12 months with 2 rackings.

Ontañón Crianza is much more than a wine; it is the culmination of decades of family tradition and viticultural passion. Today, the fourth generation, in the hands of siblings Raquel, Leticia, Rubén, and María, continues to preserve and enrich this legacy, masterfully blending the varieties that bestow its unique quality and identity.

Ontañón Crianza 2021 boasts an enticing ruby red hue with violet tinges that reflect its youthfulness. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet with notes of ripe fruits such as plums and cherries, accompanied by hints of dairy, delicate spices, truffle, and a subtle mineral undertone. On the palate, it is expansive and well-balanced, showcasing its savoury and full-bodied character, brimming with fruity nuances and an elegant ageing. A wine that invites one to relish its richness and freshness with every sip.
