Tasting notes Niepoort Redoma Rosé 2020

Rosé wine.

Niepoort Redoma Rosé 2020 is a pale salmon-hued rosé, luminous and quintessential. Olfactorily, it is refined, adorned with floral undertones, red berries (currants) and hints of toasted hazelnuts. On the palate, it reveals complexity and personality, underpinned by a delicate frame. It possesses a zesty acidity. The finish is dry with a spicy flourish.

About Niepoort Redoma Rosé

Niepoort Redoma Rosé is a rosé wine made with Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca and other varieties. It is classified as a DOC Douro and is produced by Niepoort.

Niepoort was founded in 1842 and is run by the fifth generation of the family it is named after. They use traditional Portuguese techniques such as grape treading, fermentation in cement tanks or aging in pipes, 550-litre port-aging barrels, whilst also using new technologies that ensure the grapes are handled with care. The winery has vines in different locations, some of which are over 100 years old, and an aging cellar in the town of Vila Nova de Gaia.  

The Niepoort Redoma Rosé vines are planted in mainly shale soils and are 50 to 80 years old. They are trained using the Guyot and Cordón de Royat systems. The plots are located in the Quinta de Nápoles and in other nearby locations. They sit at an altitude of 200 to 400 metres and are harvested manually.

Once in the winery, the Niepoort Redoma Rosé grape is selected and pressed at low temperature to prevent oxidation and excessive colour extraction. The must ferments in new French oak barrels and matures there for approximately 2 months before being transferred to stainless steel tanks to mature for 7 more months.

Niepoort Redoma Rosé is a balanced wine that combines the complexity and structure of a red with the freshness of a white.

2016 Niepoort Redoma Rosé 2016 has aromas of dried flowers and red berries with a delicate smoky character. Its aromas are delicate and vibrant. On the palate it is fresh with some body. The notes of fresh berries are offset by the minerality and it has a delicate, lingering finish.
