About Mullineux Granite Syrah
In the Swartland region (South Africa), renowned for its granite and shale soils, the Mullineux winery has established itself as a global benchmark in the production of exceptional wines.
Founded in 2007 by winemakers Chris and Andrea Mullineux, the winery has swiftly garnered numerous accolades, including the title of Winery of the Year in the South African Platter Wine Guide (for five consecutive years) and Andrea's designation as International Winemaker of the Year by the specialised publication Wine Enthusiast. This vision of excellence and respect for the terroir has propelled Mullineux as a proud representative of South African viticulture.
Mullineux Granite Syrah is a true expression of its surroundings. Sourced from a unique terroir, where vines are planted on granite soils, this red wine is distinguished by its natural purity and balance. The clusters are hand-harvested and placed whole in 500-litre French oak barrels with open tops, with the grapes being gently trodden to release some juice. Following a fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine undergoes maturation for around 22 months in French oak barrels and foudres, and finally, 8 months resting in the bottle, achieving unparalleled complexity. The stony minerality, chalky tannins, and aromatic notes of white lily and red fruits create a structure that invites the discovery of new nuances over time.
Mullineux Granite Syrah, which has the potential to age for more than 25 years, offers a captivating experience in every sense. Its freshness and length make it the ideal companion for roasted meats or stews, yet it can also be enjoyed on its own, as a tribute to the land from which it originates. Its capacity to improve makes it a perfect wine for collectors and connoisseurs of fine wines, who will find in it a gem of the Mullineux legacy.
