About Morasinsi Piana dei Sassi
We all work to earn a living. However, there are those who strive to find meaning in their work. In the heart of Alta Murgia, in Puglia (southern Italy), two restless spirits—Sveva and Peter—discovered a way to unite passion, land, and purpose into a singular endeavour: Morasinsi. And although they do produce wine, Morasinsi is far more than a winery: it is an act of commitment to both the land and the community. Their 10-hectare family estate breathes life into every corner, guided by the principles of regenerative organic agriculture and a dual mission: environmental and social. On one hand, they aim to protect biodiversity, enhance the natural fertility of the soil, and conserve water, creating a balanced and resilient ecosystem in the face of climate change. On the other, they champion agriculture as a dignified, sustainable, and humane activity, proving that cultivating well is possible, necessary, and profitable. Even the chickens roam freely among the vineyards. Here, everyone—animals, plants, and people—has a role to play.
Take, for instance, their Morasinsi Piana dei Sassi, a Puglia IGP rosato crafted from aglianico grapes. The karstic and calcareous soil in which they thrive is teeming with life: thanks to regenerative practices, it abounds with microorganisms, earthworms, and natural humus. The grapes are hand-harvested into small crates and carefully transported by cart to the winery.
There, the entire process adheres to the biodynamic calendar and lunar phases. Fermentation occurs spontaneously, courtesy of native yeasts, and the wine is aged for 4 months in microporous concrete vats, ensuring nothing alters its purity. Finally, the wine is neither clarified nor filtered. The winter's chill naturally decants it, and bottling is done manually, one bottle at a time.
What Sveva and Peter seek is not merely to create a delicious wine (though it is). They aspire for you to taste the character of the terroir, the personality of those who cultivate it, and the heartbeat of a land tended with love when you sample Morasinsi Piana dei Sassi. Indeed, Morasinsi aims to be more than a brand. It strives to be an exemplar. A testament that one can live off the land without depleting it. An invitation to reconnect with the essentials: eat well, drink better, and work with a purpose beyond monetary gain.
