About Marqués de Riscal Limousin
Marqués de Riscal Limousin is a white wine from Rueda produced by Marqués de Riscal, an extension of his project 'Bodegas Marques de Riscal' in Rioja. In 1970 he decided to produce white wines and chose the DO Rueda for it.
The climate in this area is Mediterranean but with some continental influences. There is a great difference between the day and night temperatures. Winters are cold and very long, there are short springs with late frosts and hot, dry summers, with some occasional storms. This wine is a varietal Verdejo from 205 hectares of old vines pruned in glass trellises and located on the upper terraces of the Douro River. As for the design, harvest is done manually in boxes of 15 Kg. The whole grape is pressed, without destemming it, thus limiting the maximum oxidation of must and retaining all the aromas, colour and freshness of the variety. Once the must is obtained, it passes through a slight clarification. Fermentation takes place in French Allier oak barrels of 600 litres, subsequently aging on lees for 6-7 months.
2020 | Marqués de Riscal Limousin 2020 is a sophisticated and intricate white wine, exuding a distinctively individual style. Olfactorily, it is robust and aromatic, redolent with tertiary scents (such as oak), ripe fruit, and a spicy character. On the palate, it is rich and velvety, underpinned by a toasted lees background, nutty nuances, and hints of charred wood. |
2018 | Marqués de Riscal Limousin 2018 is an aromatic white wine exuding delightful scents of fresh herbs, citrus undertones, and toasted nuances. On the palate, it is complex, voluptuous, and exceedingly refined. This wine boasts a pronounced background of fine lees, complemented by strokes of dried fruits and oak. | |

2013 | In the mouth it is nice and creamy with a very good acidity. Memories of nuts and creamy notes of fine woods. Pale golden colour with green hues. Clean and bright. In nose it is intense and complex. Scents produced by aging such as toasted flavours, yeast and vanilla appear. Ripe white fruit is very present with white flowers and herbs. |
2012 | In the mouth, it is a serious and very pleasant wine, with an unctuous attack with a great acidity that deepens and prolongs its mid-palate. Aftertaste with dried fruit reminiscences and creamy and thin wood notes. Light golden colour with greenish reflections and golden sparkles. Clean and very bright. In the nose, it is a very intense and complex wine. Aromas of its ageing, yeasts, vanillas and fine toasted touches are firstly noticed and give way to ripe white fruit, white flowers, low mountain notes and aromatic herbs. |
2011 | Upon tasting, this white wine exudes seriousness and delightful appeal, with a viscous texture and silky flow, punctuated by a vibrant acidity that deepens and extends its journey. The finish lingers with hints of nuts and nuances of fine, creamy wood. A Rueda worthy of note. It boasts a beautiful pale golden hue with greenish reflections and golden sparkles. Clean and exceptionally luminous. It is highly intense and complex on the nose. Initially, it unveils aromas characteristic of its aging process, such as yeasts, vanillas, and subtle toastiness, which then give way to more varietal notes of ripe white fruit, white flowers, underbrush, and aromatic herbs. |

2008 | Wine with a very good, wide and bulky attack and a silky and creamy, fresh and very tasty mid palate. The fresh notes of fruit appear along with hints of nuts and notes provided during the ageing and by the fine lees. Excellent acidity. It is a perfectly balanced and harmonious wine with a long and persistant finish that leaves spicy sensations. Not very intense nice and bright golden yellow with green reflections. Clean wine with glyceric tears. Very elegant and complex aromas. The typical notes of slightly green fresh citrus and white fruit are released in perfect balance with the notes of wood, the intense aromas of vanilla and toasted touches on a light grassy background. |
