About Luca Old Vine Malbec
A pioneer in establishing links and collaborations with producers in Mendoza (Argentina), Laura Catena is one of the most important wine producers in Argentina. Her vision and dedication have contributed to the growth and recognition of the region, and her wines, made at the Luca Wines project (named after her firstborn son), are a delight where quality prevails over quantity. These wines come from different plots in the Uco Valley like La Consulta, Gualtallary, El Cepillo, Altamira and Tupungato and are the maximum expression of the great work of this winemaker on a constant quest to find unique grape varieties.
Luca Old Vine Malbec is a red Malbec wine from the Uco Valley (La Consulta and Gualtallary). The vines are 80 years old and grow at 1,000 metres above sea level on very uniform, sandy soils with stony patches. The work is organic and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery they are meticulously selected to begin fermentation with native yeasts at controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 35% of which are new and 65% have been used once.
Concentrated and intense, Luca Old Vine Malbec is an outstanding red wine that demonstrates Laura Catena’s great knowledge. The fourth generation of one of the most prestigious winemaking families in Argentina, she offers us an example of Mendoza’s Malbec.
2020 | Luca Old Vine Malbec 2020 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of red and black fruit mixed with notes of chocolate and spicy hints. On the palate it is concentrated, silky and balanced. A medium-bodied wine with pronounced acidity, defined tannins and an incredibly persistent finish with hints of minerals. |
