About Le Petit Cheval Blanc
Premier Grand Cru Classé A is a classification used for the best quality French wines. These are exceptional wines that come from an excellent terroir and a unique “savoir faire”. Cheval Blanc obtained Grand Cru recognition in 1954 and has since become one of the most prestigious wineries in the Saint-Émilion denomination. A high-ranking winery, since 1871 it has maintained its estate unchanged; an impressive chateau surrounded by 41 hectares of stony, sandy soil whose wines are characterised by their richness, maturity and depth.
Within its wonderful collection of wines, Le Petit Cheval Blanc is the result of the challenge of making white wine in a terroir historically known for its red wines. Although the initial idea was to make it for their own enjoyment, the winery soon realised that a great wine could be made embodying the essence of Cheval Blanc. Sourced from old Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon vines aged about 40 years old planted in a unique soil of clay, gravel and some ferric concretions, they are cultivated using organic agriculture to maintain the natural balance of the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum point of ripeness. In the winery, the best grapes are selected and carefully destemmed and pressed. The resulting must then ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in new oak barrels before being bottled.
The fruit of one of the most emblematic wineries in Pomerol and one of the most prestigious terroirs, Le Petit Cheval Blanc is a wine that stands out for its balance, smoothness and minerality. A second wine with a first class quality.
2020 | Le Petit Cheval Blanc 2020 is a creamy white wine with bright aromas of white fruit, accompanied by citrus notes and herbal hints. On the palate the entrance is lively and refreshing, the palate is broad and unctuous and the finish is long and persistent. A wine that seduces with its great minerality from start to finish. |
