About Koehler Ruprecht Spätburgunder Rosé Trocken
Koehler-Ruprecht has been established since the 18th century, yet it is within the past three decades that this quintessentially traditional winery has carved out a name for itself on the international stage. Their secret lies in their exceptional vineyards at the heart of riesling production, specifically in the village of Kallstadt in Pfalz, coupled with the visionary approach of Bernd Philippi towards the crafting of dry wines. Even though in 2009 Koehler-Ruprecht underwent a change of ownership with Dominik Sona taking the helm, the winemaking style that garnered such acclaim has been meticulously preserved. Wines, particularly the rieslings, which may seem somewhat obstinate in their youth, mature over time to reveal a most intriguing complexity.
Among the various wines released annually by the winery, Koehler Ruprecht Spätburgunder Rosé Trocken is a limited-edition rosé crafted from the pinot noir grape variety. This wine originates from limestone soils where the vines are ecologically farmed without irrigation, fertilizers, or herbicides. Following manual harvesting, the winery adheres to a strict non-interventionist approach, eschewing chaptalization, the use of enzymes, or other manipulations. After gentle pressing, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and are aged entirely in neutral stück (1200L oval barrels) and halbstück (600L).
As one of the most renowned estates in Palatinate, perhaps even in all of Germany, Koehler Ruprecht Spätburgunder Rosé Trocken is a rosé wine rich in minerality. It stands as an excellent choice for those looking to delve into the world of sought-after quality dry wines.
