About K. Descombes Moulin à Vent
Conscientious viticulture, natural winemaking processes, and the surname Descombes as the ultimate seal of quality. It can be said that few wines measure up to this one, correct? One need not be overly astute to recognize that K. Descombes Moulin à Vent is far from an ordinary wine.
Historically, the Descombes name has always been synonymous with assurance. Emblematic of being for years one of the finest vignerons in France, the next chapter in this family's saga continues with Kevin, son of Georges Descombes and the latest generation, who since 2013 has been making his mark independently. From his six hectares of vineyard, this young man, barely in his thirties, has proven his expertise, captivating wine tasters and enthusiasts alike with his entirely natural cultivation and vinification methods. Indeed, Kevin Descombes is part of a cadre of young talents who have elevated the quality of the renowned reds of the A.O.C. Beaujolais, heralding a new era that is sure to generate considerable buzz.
In this regard, Kevin Desombes is making a strong impression with K. Descombes Moulin à Vent, committing to one of the most prestigious areas of southern Burgundy. To be more precise, Moulin à Vent is the cru that "embodies the prestige and pride" of this appellation. Nestled between the towns of Romanèche-Thorins and Chénas, the perfect conditions for cultivating quality grapes are found: a temperate climate (with continental, Atlantic, and Mediterranean influences) and soils that blend granite, limestone, marl, and sandstone. Both in K. Descombes Moulin à Vent and his other wines, Kevin Descombes performs all tasks by hand, eschewing the use of any chemical products. Equally, the Gamay grape is a fundamental part of Kevin Descombes' life (specifically, it is the predominant grape in his father's vineyards), so we can rest assured that Kéké—as his friends call him—knows his craft well.
The same philosophy applies in the cellar, where K. Descombes Moulin à Vent is prepared to begin fermentation. At this juncture, Kevin always confines himself to oversight, allowing the indigenous yeasts to commence their arduous work entirely spontaneously. These practices, along with short maceration periods, are some of the hallmarks of this young vigneron.
In summary, K. Descombes Moulin à Vent is not just any ordinary wine. It is a red that represents much more: a family tradition, an absolute respect for nature, and a love and passion for a craft... Surely you wouldn't want to miss out on this?
2021 | K. Descombes Moulin à Vent 2021 enchants with its youthful vigour and light-bodied grace. On the nose, it unfurls a tapestry of aromas where cherries and raspberries intertwine with subtle hints of spices. Upon the palate, it reveals a mineral freshness and a texture that glides effortlessly, leaving an impression of finesse and zest. This wine is an impeccable selection for connoisseurs seeking to savour the unadulterated expression of fruit with a spicy undertone. |
