About Joseph Drouhin Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau
‘Less is more’, and if you don’t agree, tell that to the Beaujolais AOC, a wine region in France that extends south of Burgundy and is famous for its Beaujolais nouveau, a young, accessible and easy-drinking wine made from the gamay variety and born two months after the harvest. Considering that it can only be purchased from the third Thursday of November, a day that is celebrated in style, it seems incredible that such a simple wine is so successful. But if there is one thing about this typical ‘primeur’ wine, it is that its joy, freshness and festivity is instantly contagious. One winery that knows this very well is Maison Joseph Drouhin, a family-owned company that has always been deeply involved with the Beaujolais region, and is known for being the first to bottle Beaujolais nouveau in the 1950s.
With pink granite soil and absolute respect for the environment, Joseph Drouhin Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau is a typical Beaujolais integrated in the Beaujolais-Villages AOC. A primeur wine made with the queen gamay variety from vines that are cultivated according to biodynamic precepts and whose yields are limited in order to obtain more concentration and expressiveness. In the cellar, the wine is vinified following the traditional method with semi-carbonic maceration of the bunches for 4 to 10 days in stainless steel tanks. Two months later, it is bottled and released to the market.
Conceived expressly to be consumed in its first year, Joseph Drouhin Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau is a lively, fresh and festive wine that is meant to be enjoyed without fuss. Simplicity is the spice of life.
