About Jean-Yves Péron Côte Pelée

Jean-Yves Péron Côte Pelée is a natural, wood-aged red wine made by Jean-Yves Péron with the Mondeuse variety in Haute-Savoie (Vin de France).
 
Jean-Yves Péron studied oenology in Bordeaux and trained under Thierry Allemand in Cornas and then Bruno Schueller in Alsace. In 2004 he returned to his native Savoie and started his own project on micro-plots in the French Alps, working with natural, organic and biodynamic methods. 
 
Jean-Yves Péron Côte Pelée comes from a small plot of clay-limestone soils with slate and mica components. The vines are old, ranging from 30 to 120 years old and planted at 300-600 metres above sea level. They are cultivated using organic agriculture with organic and biodynamic methods, very low yields and manual harvesting. 
 
Jean-Yves Péron Côte Pelée is the result of a two week carbonic maceration followed by a spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. It then remains in barrels until malolactic fermentation is complete. Finally, it is bottled without being filtered, clarified or adding sulphites.
 
Jean-Yves Péron Côte Pelée is one of the most enjoyable wines from this young winemaker who has managed to revive the wines of the French Alps. A natural red wine made through carbonic maceration that is intense and deep with a mineral background. 
 
2017 Jean-Yves Péron Côte Pelée 2017 is a smooth red wine with aromas of black fruits, cherries and berries and hints of black pepper and dates. On the palate it is powerful, deep and meaty. A somewhat crisp red with mineral undertones.
